From Wayne and Jill: We will host an “un-official” Christensen family reunion here at our home on June 19th.

We will have a day-long BBQ out by our pool and open our home to all the extended family who would like to gather for a full day of family fun, laughter and visiting. To make the day complete, we will add the family traditions… my famous root beer floats, Wayne’s gourmet hot dogs, Mom’s (Zona) fabulous baked beans and any other family favorites you would like to bring!

If other, vigorous activities (besides swimming) are desired, there are two parks less than a mile from our home.

We have a spare bedroom, our air-conditioned 5th wheel with two bedrooms (sleeps 7), and in our personal, on-site “RV Park” we have RV Parking for up to 5 additional rigs available for those who are traveling distances to attend. We hope you will take advantage, and come to our “un-official” family reunion on the 19th!

Please let us know how many will be coming in your family and if you will be joining the old fashioned “sleep over” at the Wayne Christensen home & RV park.

Addendum from Eric: After talking to Wayne and Judy and Marcus and leaving a message with Gene, it is proposed that Judy sends out a follow up email.

After speaking with several of you and discussing it with my siblings, in addition to Wayne and Jill’s daytime swimming and BBQ and RV hosting, we would like to add a dinner Saturday evening at the Jewelry store building (assuming it is still not leased out instead). We propose that it be pot luck and feature maybe a few activities or presentations that will be light in scope. The calls we received expressed a thoughtful interest in holding the easy going dinner at the jewelry store building as it holds a dear place in many of our hearts.

So, expressing apologies for the confusion and drama, we, Don’s Kids, now invite you to activities as Wayne and Jill outlined in their email PLUS a dinner and evening at the Sahara Jewelry store on June 19th to start at 5pm.

It would be extremely helpful if you let us know if and how many of you will be attending. We know it will be a great pleasure to get together and visit one more time.

Thank you in advance for your timely and thoughtful replies,

Love, The Kids of Don

The Christensen Reunion is Saturday June 19, 2010. Our uncles have agreed to let us use the old MJC jewelry store on E. Sahara for our reunion. The committee is so excited to go to a place that has such family history and memories. The show cases are still there, so they are asking each family to bring pictures and “favorite things” of all our moms and our dear grandma Hazel, who we will be honoring this year. We plan to start the festivities Saturday, June 19th at 10am with games, visiting, getting to know each other things, etc.

If you come into town on Friday, we are organizing a swimming party at Wayne’s home and maybe even a family temple session. Lunch has been assigned to the families of Carl and Adele. In the afternoon, the Olympics (anyone have a ping pong table and/or a small pool table), jewelry making , the famous Diamond clip, more visiting, puzzles, picture taking, dress-up, preparation of skits, and many more fun things. Dinner has been assigned to the families of Vern and Paul followed by skits, the presentation of “Hazel…this is your life” and a goodbye dance and hoedown.

If you know you are coming, we need a count of how many people plan to attend as soon as possible. However, please come even if you don’t sign up. It will be loads of fun and you will be missed if you are not there.

Of the 200 books ordered we have about 60 that are not currently reserved. They are going fast. If you would like a copy of this fabulous book ($41 + $4 postage), please contact this site or go directly to Adele Matthews to order. The pdfs from the book will be posted on this site for download, but there is no way you would be able to duplicate the quality of this hard-bound book. We will not be re-printing. Now is the time to order. It would make a perfect Christmas or New Year’s present. We would like to pay off our publication debt soon. Financial contributions to further the work are also accepted.

Learning the lessons of the past allows you to walk boldly in the light without running the risk of stumbling in the darkness.

“Learning the lessons of the past allows you to walk boldly in the light without running the risk of stumbling in the darkness. This is the way it’s supposed to work. This is God’s plan: father and mother, grandfather and grandmother teaching their children; children learning from them and then becoming a more righteous generation through their own personal experiences and opportunities. Learning the lessons of the past allows you to build personal testimony on a solid bedrock of obedience, faith, and the witness of the Spirit.

“Of course, it’s not enough to learn these lessons as a matter of history and culture. Learning the names and dates and sequence of events from the printed page won’t help you very much unless the meaning and the message are written in your hearts. Nourished by testimony and watered with faith, the lessons of the past can take root in your hearts and become a vibrant part of who you are” (Elder Russell M. Ballard, “Learning the Lessons of the Past”).

These words mean so much to me because they are exactly my experience. I love to read about, think about, write about my ancestors and other family members. They have given me so much. They have paved the way for me to be who I am today.
